Global advisory and investment platform Consello has appointed Nick Mullen as the Head of its Sports Advisory Business, as the company seeks to expand its presence in the fast-growing sports industry.

Mullen, who has a background in sports marketing and private equity, will lead Consello’s efforts to develop new opportunities within the sector. The company believes the sports industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation, with emerging investment opportunities reshaping its economic landscape.

Declan Kelly, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Consello, described Mullen’s appointment as a strategic move to position the firm at the forefront of this shift.

“We are experiencing a fundamental reshaping of the sports industry. Nick’s experience in private equity and the business of sports, combined with his extensive network, will play a critical role in uncovering opportunities to shape the future of sports as an emerging asset class,” he said.

    Expanding Sports Investment

Before joining Consello, Mullen founded Dynamiq Ventures, a private investment firm backed by a network of global family offices. The firm has invested in a range of industries, including fintech, e-commerce, data, cybersecurity, and sports.

Mullen is also a partner at Happy Stack Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on high-growth technology and consumer businesses.

His previous roles include serving as Group Deputy CEO of International Sports Management (ISM), where he played a key role in expanding the agency’s U.S. operations.

Commenting on his new role at Consello, Mullen said the company’s expertise in corporate advisory makes it well-positioned to capitalise on the evolving sports sector.

“Consello brings an extraordinary network and set of capabilities from its Corporate Advisory work that position us to become a driving force in the rapidly evolving sports industry,” he said.

“Rather than compete for a share of the existing sports landscape, we are looking to create new and incremental value for all stakeholders.”

Sports as an Emerging Asset Class

The commercialisation of sports has seen a surge in investment interest, with private equity firms, hedge funds, and institutional investors increasingly looking at sports as an asset class.

Areas such as media rights, sponsorship deals, digital fan engagement, and athlete management have drawn significant financial backing, prompting firms like Consello to strengthen their presence in the industry.

Mullen’s appointment signals Consello’s intention to be a key player in this investment shift, using its financial expertise to identify new revenue streams and develop strategic partnerships across the sports ecosystem.

With global interest in sports investments growing, industry experts believe the next few years could see a major shift in ownership structures, revenue models, and technological integration within sports.

Consello’s move to bring in Mullen, an executive with both financial and sporting industry expertise, highlights its ambition to be at the forefront of these changes.
