Char.gy, a leading UK electric vehicle (EV) charging provider, has been awarded B Corporation (B Corp) certification, joining a global network of companies committed to balancing profit with purpose. The certification, granted by the non-profit B Lab, recognises companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

This milestone reflects Char.gy’s dedication to driving the UK’s green transport agenda, particularly by offering accessible, sustainable EV charging solutions. The company operates a network of over 3,600 public charging points across the country, all powered by 100% renewable energy, with the aim of making EV charging more accessible to households that lack off-street parking.

Char.gy’s CEO, John Lewis, expressed pride in the achievement, noting that the company scored 100.2 points in its B Corp assessment, well above the 80-point threshold required for certification. “This is just the beginning,” he said. “B Corp certification requires ongoing improvement, and we are committed to continuous positive impact, with recertification every three years.”

The company’s environmental efforts were key in earning its B Corp status. Char.gy is focused on reducing its carbon footprint by halving emissions intensity per charge point by 2030. It also prioritises sustainable manufacturing practices to reduce embodied carbon. These measures are part of Char.gy’s broader mission to tackle the UK’s transport-related emissions, which account for nearly a quarter of the country’s total greenhouse gas emissions.

Emma Walford, Founding Partner at sustainability consultancy Perigon Partners, praised Char.gy’s commitment to sustainable practices. “Char.gy doesn’t just set ambitious goals – they act on them,” she said, highlighting their supply chain improvements and workplace policies.

In addition to environmental sustainability, Char.gy has fostered an inclusive and supportive workplace, earning recognition as a Great Place to Work in 2024. The company’s commitment to its employees is reflected in its leading policies and ISO certifications, which underscore its focus on operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

Char.gy’s B Corp certification also signals its commitment to wider social impact. The company is now developing a comprehensive social value strategy aimed at benefiting the communities it serves. As part of the B Corp movement, Char.gy is well-positioned to lead by example in the growing EV charging sector.

Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, welcomed Char.gy into the B Corp community. “Char.gy’s certification demonstrates leadership in driving positive change within the EV sector,” Turner said. “We are excited to see how they continue to set a high standard for businesses committed to social and environmental impact.”

Char.gy’s B Corp certification provides a framework for continuous improvement, ensuring that the company’s mission to build a cleaner, greener future remains at the heart of its operations.
