DevEx Connect has launched the State of the Community Survey, an initiative aimed at gathering valuable insights from members of the technology community. The survey seeks to better understand the experiences, challenges, and preferences of those participating in developer groups, with the goal of enhancing engagement and support within these communities.

The results will be used to help community organisers improve the way they engage with members, addressing common barriers to participation and offering solutions tailored to the needs of developers. By understanding what motivates members and where improvements can be made, DevEx Connect hopes to strengthen the overall developer ecosystem.

The survey, which can be accessed via the DevEx Connect website, is open to all members of technology communities. So far, more than 100 groups have been invited to participate. Organisers are keen to encourage further contributions, with an open invitation for community leaders to share the survey with their members.

    Empowering Communities

Ethan Sumner, CEO of DevEx Connect, highlighted the importance of the initiative, saying: “This survey is a cornerstone of our commitment to empowering technology communities. Through our learnings, we will bolster the DevEx movement and foster communities where developers can thrive and innovate. Our ultimate goal is to create an ecosystem supporting personal and professional growth.”

Topics covered in the survey include member profiles, engagement levels, learning preferences, and the barriers that prevent some from attending events. By analysing the data gathered, DevEx Connect aims to provide recommendations that will help organisers optimise their events and services for the benefit of community members.

    Supporting Youth Homelessness

In addition to gathering critical data, DevEx Connect has pledged to donate £1 to Centrepoint, a leading UK charity for homeless young people, for every completed survey. Participants will also receive a 15% discount on DevEx Connect events and conferences as a token of appreciation for their input.

The survey results will form the foundation for an annual State of the Community Report, which will allow organisers to track changes and improvements over time. The first insights from this year’s survey are expected to be shared at the DevEx Connect conference in Manchester on 29th and 30th October, with a wider publication to follow.

    Looking Ahead

With this initiative, DevEx Connect aims to ensure the voices of developers are heard and that their communities continue to evolve to meet their needs. By gathering and sharing insights, the company hopes to promote best practices, foster collaboration, and build a robust ecosystem that drives innovation and professional growth.

This marks a significant step in DevEx Connect’s mission to support the technology community and drive meaningful improvements across the industry.
