Serres, a leading developer of surgical fluid management solutions, has secured a significant €1.8 million grant from Business Finland. The funding will support the company’s mission to develop sustainable solutions that assist hospitals in achieving net-zero emissions.

The grant will be used to advance Serres’ strategic efforts in designing solutions that reduce hospital waste and improve the sustainability of fluid collection in medical environments. This initiative is part of the company’s broader vision to make a meaningful impact on healthcare sustainability and reduce the environmental footprint of hospitals worldwide.

Eija-Riitta Hämäläinen from Business Finland highlighted the ambitious nature of the project, which covers a range of innovative work packages aimed at improving the sustainability of hospital operations. “The project supports the company’s strategic renewal, positioning it as a leader in sustainable development within the healthcare sector. Business Finland’s funding allows for implementing a large-scale initiative that will boost Serres’ international business prospects,” said Hämäläinen.

Nicke Svanvik, CEO of Serres Group, expressed the company’s commitment to sustainability. “We are profoundly aware of our responsibility to help hospitals transition to net-zero emissions. At the same time, we recognize the growing demand for sustainable solutions in healthcare, and we are eager to meet this challenge head-on,” he said. The grant will enable Serres to accelerate its efforts to provide solutions where clinical excellence and sustainability go hand-in-hand.

Serres’ innovation program is centred around sustainability on multiple levels. The company is actively collaborating with research institutions, joining relevant industry ecosystems, and co-designing new solutions with hospitals. Maria Lavonen, Director of Product Group and Innovation, explained, “Our primary goal is to ensure responsibility and sustainability across the entire value chain. This grant will allow us to take a holistic approach to the circular economy, building the capabilities and expertise needed to support our future growth.”

The company is dedicated to improving sustainability in operating rooms by offering safer, more eco-friendly surgical suction and fluid disposal systems. As a trusted supplier for hospitals worldwide, Serres provides reliable solutions that help reduce operational waste and lower CO2 emissions. Its products are designed with a focus on ensuring safety, reducing waste, and minimising the environmental impact of hospital operations.

With a workforce of over 175 professionals and a global distribution network, Serres supports more than 75,000 surgeries every day, delivering products with a proven track record. The company boasts an impressive 95.5% delivery assurance rate and has reported just one failure for every million uses.

Serres’ products are proudly designed and manufactured in Finland, and the company continues to lead the way in developing innovative, sustainable solutions for the healthcare industry.
