A student from Bradford College has received £150,000 in funding from Microsoft to support his AI-powered call centre start-up, Kallabot.

Abdul Rahman Majid, who developed the idea after facing difficulties communicating with utility companies, created the AI-driven platform to improve customer service efficiency. Kallabot offers automated customer support, sales calls, and appointment scheduling using virtual agents that can handle hundreds of calls at once and operate in more than 30 languages.

Explaining the inspiration behind his business, Abdul said: “I noticed that many companies rely on outsourced call centres, which can be expensive. I wanted to create a more affordable alternative that could provide the same level of service.

“When I moved to Bradford, I found it frustrating to wait on hold for long periods when dealing with utility companies. Sales calls can be tedious and time-consuming for businesses, so I saw an opportunity to develop a solution that streamlines the process.”

Having successfully built the platform, Abdul applied for Microsoft’s start-up funding scheme and secured £150,000 to invest in the company’s digital infrastructure, including servers and website development.

“The call centre industry is massive, and I hope to carve out a small space for Kallabot to grow into something big,” he said. “After finishing at Bradford College, I plan to go to university, make new connections, and continue expanding the business.”

Abdul’s achievement has been praised by his tutor at Bradford College, Daniaal Rauf, who highlighted the student’s dedication to both his studies and entrepreneurship.

“It’s impressive to see someone excelling academically while launching a business,” he said. “Balancing both requires strong time management and commitment, and Abdul has demonstrated incredible perseverance.

“His enthusiasm for business and education is inspiring his classmates, and his success reflects a proactive mindset and determination to succeed. We are incredibly proud of him.”

With backing from Microsoft and a clear vision for the future, Abdul aims to position Kallabot as a cost-effective alternative for businesses looking to enhance customer service through AI technology.
