Zoom has announced that its AI Companion tool has been certified by the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Joint Authorization Board (JAB), further solidifying its place as a secure provider of solutions for the U.S. government. The latest FedRAMP JAB certification for Zoom AI Companion adds to the suite of authorised tools on the Zoom for Government platform, offering U.S. federal, state, and local agencies, as well as approved organisations supporting government operations, a secure and AI-enhanced experience.
The certification, which designates Zoom AI Companion as a “JAB Moderate” system, comes at a time when government bodies are increasingly reliant on secure, cloud-based solutions to improve efficiency and enhance communication. Zoom Contact Center, another feature of the Zoom for Government platform, was similarly authorised in June 2024. The initial FedRAMP authorisation for Zoom for Government was awarded in March 2019, with a collective JAB approval following in July 2023.
Enhanced Solutions for U.S. Government Agencies
The newly certified AI Companion, integrated within Zoom for Government, enables users to streamline workflows, synthesise information, and boost team productivity. Built on a foundation of trust and security, Zoom AI Companion is designed to meet the rigorous standards required by U.S. government agencies. The tool offers federal, state, and local government bodies a secure way to harness the benefits of AI, all within the familiar Zoom environment.
Zoom’s head of the U.S. public sector, Matt Mandrgoc, said: “At Zoom, we are dedicated to bringing quick availability to Zoom products to market by first and foremost understanding our customers’ needs for specific industry solutions. We received this certification on an expeditious timeframe, which further demonstrates our continued commitment to our U.S. government customers, and we look forward to continuing to add new customer-focused solutions to the Zoom for Government platform in the future.”
FedRAMP and JAB Explained
The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) was created to standardise security authorisations for cloud services. It is designed to foster innovation while advancing more secure technologies. JAB, a key component of FedRAMP, is made up of CIOs and Authorising Officials from the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and General Services Administration. Annually, JAB selects approximately 12 cloud products to provide with a Provisional Authority to Operate (P-ATO).
Zoom for Government received its JAB P-ATO in July 2023, and this new AI Companion certification builds on that authorisation. The platform’s range of tools, from Zoom Meetings to Zoom Phone, enables agencies to simplify communication, enhance productivity, and improve collaboration, all while meeting the strict security standards of the U.S. government.
More Secure Features for Government Users
Zoom for Government operates on the AWS GovCloud network, ensuring secure data handling and compliance with U.S. federal regulations. The platform has received additional authorisations, including DoD IL4 and StateRAMP, and holds HIPAA and CJIS certifications, further highlighting its security credentials.
With Zoom’s latest FedRAMP JAB certification, the company continues to expand its secure offerings for U.S. government agencies, providing a robust solution for collaboration and communication in the public sector. For more information, please visit: https://www.zoom.com/en/industry/government/
